  The New Jesus Freaks While the "Summer of Love" is often remembered in retrospectives such as Rolling Stone for the "sex, drugs, and rock-n-roll", or not remembered depending on how much drugs were taken, it was also the birth of another and more enduring social movement. Originally a pejorative term, the Jesus movement of the late 1960s and early 1970s came into existence in the freak scene of that era.

During July and August many local churches are organizing events to celebrate new Summer of Love inspired by the 40th anniversary of the Jesus movement in San Francisco.
