Below is the email received a month ago from Dr Andrew Ash, Director of the Climate Adaptation Flagship, promising a formal response to issues raised about the Drought Exceptional Circumstances Report (DECR) concerning no apparent attempt at validation of the climate models for drought in the report, or evidence of skill at modeling drought. No reply has been forthcoming to date.

I must say that I’m surprised at the recklessness of Ash and Hennessy, both as individuals and as employees representing a presumably responsible organization, in making promises they don’t, won’t, or can’t keep.

It is now 26th November, and I gather no sign of the promised update from CSIRO. Perhaps Andrew Ash and Kevin Hennesy need a reminder of their commitment to give you a response.

is context related.

In politics it's like a "non core promise".

On Aeroflot, it's like a safe landing at the right airport.

In Bali markets it's like a "genuine Rolex" watch.

In law, it's an "alibi with no witness"

In Life, it's proceeding on the the expectation that "I'll still respect you in the morning"

and so on.

Thanks for the update, David. I'm keen to see the CSIRO response, too. I don't know about 'reckless'. They don't seem to be in any hurry to respond to the important questions you've raised about their analysis in the DEC report. Yet this is a pretty important question for a lot of agricultural producers. So their delay is certainly beginning to seem a bit 'careless'.

I think that it seems clear that the problem for CSIRO is that you have caught them out in a very embarrassing way, and anything they say can only compound the situation. Nevertheless, they certainly should respond.
