Lawriew, that is an interesting link; the use of adjusted data referenced to a base period to generate anomalies has in my opinion been one of the most controversial and contentious aspects of AGW; personally I do not see why data has to be anomalised at all; the main excuse for doing it is that it allows a global mean standard temperature to be generated; the concept of a GMST has been critiqued in this paper:

What lucia did was look at the regional effect of the Stefan-Boltzmann law and how regional effects defeat the supposed worth of changes in GMST as an indicator of AGW. To me there is no reason why particular location temperature histories based on raw data cannot tell their story unaffected by manipulation; if comparisons between locations and even regions are to be done that can simply be done on an averaged basis without resorting to the fable of a GMST.

Close. At some level the argument is over whether climate is stationary (fluctuating) or non-stationary (trending). The Miskolczi claim is that the greenhouse effect only is stationary, and that many other things can change, temperature, but the 'effect' is constant — for which he presents a lot of evidence. The AGW theory in essence is that this latest warming is caused by a change, a increase in the greenhouse effect — for which there is no direct evidence.
They can't both be right. But the recent warming could be caused by something other than changes in the greenhouse effect, for which there is evidence as well — UHI, natural variation, CRF.

I am no scientist but an observant farmer. I have yet to find something in nature that once out of equalibrium doesn't return as quickly as possible. My untrained eye sees the earths climate as one long sine curve always seeming to overcorrect before returning to a balanced state. Even if MMCO2 alters the temp history says the earth finds a way to balance fairly quickly.ie within a few degrees.

Am I being too simplistic?

Do a little checking and you will find numerous sceptics with good science credentials went over Miskolczi's stuff on a number of blogs every which away again and again and again, in exhaustive detail.

It's mumbo jumbo.

Only the airheads keep recycling this stuff. Zagoni keeps wearing out the shoe leather flogging the dead horse for reasons known only to himself (perhaps he survives on speaking fees and paid-for hotels?). Even Miskolczi snuck away into petulant retreat, having proven he doesn't have the stomach for anything but endless dissembling.

That's why Miskolciz and Zagoni never got invited back to the subsequent annual Heartland Conferences in NY.

Drop it, it's a dead dog.

Miskolsczi's theory explains the current lack of warming and past cliamate records. In short this actually makes sense as a runaway greenhouse effect may be good to generate panic, but such a relationship in nature is almost never observed and if it is not for long.
Some kind of atmospheric balance and constant just makes common sense. I didn't see a link to the paper do you have a link?

Great synopsis BTW and just out of curiosity why has this paper not received more attention? Real climate has a very, very weak explanation.
