Table of contents for Greenhouse Experiment
A number of readers have expressed some knowledge of the greenhouse effect and how it works. Here is a quiz to give the punters an opportunity to show they know what they are talking about.
On the right hand side of the title above is the question. You are welcome to enter your prediction of the direction of temperature when another layer is added to the greenhouse apparatus. I will upload a diagram of the apparatus later in the day. Please let me know below of any problems or suggestions.
Nick asked what this greenhouse apparatus trying to prove. Of course the greenhouse apparatus is different in some respects to the real atmosphere, but it is similar in other respects. Shouldn’t you understand the toy apparatus before you try to explain the atmosphere? If you can’t predict the behavior of the toy, and explain the correct theory for the prediction, you shouldn’t be talking about the greenhouse in the atmosphere, IMHO.
Above is a diagram of the apparatus used. The challenge is to predict the change in maximum inside temperature from a setup with a single layer (jar 1) to a double layer after adding jar 2. The results of the experiment will be posted in a few days.
